Before starting, ensure you have sterile needles and sealable zip-lock bags.
How to Take a Blood sample
The procedure is as follows:
Secure the parrot, clean the puncture site (toe pad), and make a gentle puncture. A fresh needle must always be used for each individual sample!
Apply 2–3 drops of blood onto the sampling card. Make sure to apply the blood only to the marked field "Blood Sample".
On the sampling card and the application form, enter the ring number and the species of the bird. Do not fill in the Lab Code field.
Allow the sampling card to dry thoroughly in a bird-free environment to prevent contamination. Once dry, place it into a separate zip-lock bag and seal it.
Fill out the application form clearly. Place both the form and the samples into an envelope and send them by registered mail to: BILGEN s.r.o., Pod Zahrádkami 321, 687 06 Velehrad, Czech Republic
Once we receive your samples, you will be sent an email confirmation and an invoice for payment.
Certificates with results are sent via email within 7 business days of receiving both the samples and the payment.
Warning:
A blood sample must always be taken from each individual with a new, unused needle. If you take a blood sample from more than one individual with the same needle, the samples could be contaminated and the test results would be incorrect!
The blood sample plate must dry in a room where no birds are present. If you let the blood sample dry, for example in a breeding facility, the sample could be contaminated with feather dust from other individuals and the test result would be incorrect!
